Skydive University (SDU) is a professional skydiving instruction and coaching organization dedicated to structured progression across every major discipline in the sport. From foundational skill development to advanced performance coaching and instructor ratings, SDU exists to elevate how skydivers learn, grow, and lead. Since 1990, SDU coaches have contributed to World Championship campaigns, mentoring national teams and shaping performance on the world stage.

OUR ROOTS RUN DEEP
Currently, veteran skydiver and World Team member Rob Laidlaw leads Skydive University’s team of coaches, instructors, and examiners. With decades of competitive and instructional experience, Rob provides a strong foundation of technical expertise, leadership, and coaching methodology that shapes SDU’s global standard.
Rob began skydiving in 1973 in Manitoba, Canada, and soon after began teaching as a static line instructor in Pembina, North Dakota. He became an Examiner for Rigging and Instruction in 1976 and joined the CSPA Safety and Training Committee in 1979, beginning a lifelong commitment to advancing safety, instruction, and performance in the sport.
The name Skydive University carries responsibility as well as distinction.
In the mid-1990s, the organization was formally asked to justify the use of the term “university.” SDU met and exceeded the standards required to hold such a designation and was sanctioned to continue operating as Skydive University, Inc.
While others may adopt similar titles, SDU has long upheld the structure, curriculum, and professional standards that define true educational progression in the sport. The name reflects not marketing language, but earned credibility.
